Smarter Travels: What You Should Never Wear to The Airport

“If airports can be seen as temples to travel, gateways to other worlds, then airport carpets are the vast prayer mats upon which we all genuflect.” –George Pendle

Traveling is never easy. Sure, there is a number of ways wherein we can make our travel endeavors speedier and much more relaxed. However,  it would still boil down to the level of comfort one experiences throughout the entire process. One of the things that make travel so much of a hassle is airport security. While this has always been an integral aspect of people’s safety and security, it can take quite a lot away from an individual’s comfort when flying. Complement that with long queues, brash, rude and insensitive TSA agents and it can easily escalate into something out of a nightmare. However, this not need be the case every time you fly, all you need to do is to come prepared and not to stand out so much. One of the excellent ways you can prepare is to ensure that you are wearing the right kind of clothing—not only to get through security but to maintain a level of relaxed comfort while you are waiting to board your plane. Whether your preference is largely wholesale clothing over retail, it does not matter—here are things and articles of clothing you should never wear:

1.) A Belt

It can be a mighty pain for you to take it off and put it on again. Not only that, but you need to do it in a haste as well as there would be others waiting behind you for their turn. Wear pants that fit you comfortably instead sans the need for a belt (no pajamas and baggy sweats though). If you are a woman, opt for something you can easily pull on and off such as a pair of leggings.

2.) Flip Flops

Sure, you may want to expedite the whole process of peeling your shoes and wearing them immediately. But beyond your haste and level of comfort, you should also think of your health (and hygiene for that matter). It may take you less than a minute to take off your pair of flip-flops, but think of how many people stand in the security line at the airport. In that regard, think of sharing all of their germs. Wear socks, not only will they keep you warm inside the plane, but they protect your feet from germs and bacteria as well.

3.) Lots of jewelry

You may want to level up an outfit, but piling jewelry upon jewelry on yourself means you will have to take longer when you go through the airport body and security scanner. Moreover, some jewelry designs are not exactly easy to take off which means it would probably take you more time (and more impatient people behind you). If you wish to have jewelry with you when you arrive at where you might be going, do not wear them to the airport. Instead, pack them in a separate little bag and put them in your carry-on.

4.) Gladiator Sandals

They are chic and sophisticated. Unfortunately, their intricate design and innumerable buckles make it harder for you to take off. Similarly, boots with laces and zippers would not make things any easier for you when you go through security either. Instead, choose a pair of slip-on flats or shoes (which you wear with socks) that you can easily slip on and off at different security points in the airport.

5.) Big bottles of liquid

Although these are not necessarily things you would wear, carrying these things with you would cause you to be stopped at security. If you have any bottles of liquid to bring such as shampoo and other toiletry essentials, do not pack them in your carry-on luggage. Instead, check them in at the counter.
