Hey Bernd

Thanks for the comment and your perspective which is important.

The comment from the taxi driver is again his view and perspective ( right or wrong)- felt fair to put his view across. I think at the end of the article you can judge for yourself about what Oldenburg is. More places like Heimathaven please: great place. There is a video to be published soon which I hope you will enjoy and share with friends. Stay tuned to the blog 🙂

Living and evaluating Oldenburg depends on what you were used to before. If you are from NY then maybe Oldenburg is quite boring for you – but on the other hand you should not forget the calming effect of this city :-). There are some things you forgot, i.e. the yearly “Christmas Market” (Weihnachtsmarkt) and the advantage of many one – family – houses compared to other cities with their huge skyscraper ghettos.
From your blog it sounds that Oldenburg is more suitable for elder visitors, which can’t be true, because OL has a huge university with thousands of young students. So there is something like a nightlife. There are pubs with live music, and I’m sure there is a disco somewhere.
And as somebody who is not affirmative with maps you can get lost everywhere. For what do you guys all have your GPS mobile phones ?!
I wouldn’t say, OL is for the elder. It is for the more intellectual and settled people. Look at the hundreds of bookshops and cafeterias, the opera, the culture center . . . Oldenburg is a city where you can relax from stressful daily work in the afternoon and evening. You can sit in one of the multiple cafes and just breathe, – yes “Heimathaven” is a good place to do that. It is new but on the way to become a real gem in town. Tell it to all your friends.
Thanks for an objective critic written with charm – that’s the way it should be. You have proved some intelligence with it – so you are totally right in Oldenburg 🙂

best regards

Bernd
